Bayview Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 members club at Mona Vale on Sydney's Northern Beaches that also accepts social play. Its origins date to 1924, when New Zealand sheep farmer John Orr and his wife Christina purchased the property then known as Winnererremy Swamp. Orr created an initial six-hole course and invited others to play.
A small clubhouse followed in 1928, additional land was acquired across Cabbage Tree Road in 1933, and Bayview Golf Club Limited was formed in 1948. Members purchased the club from the Orr family interests in 1967. The modern course is divided by Cabbage Tree Road and includes tree-lined fairways, wetlands and several dogleg holes.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. The course originally opened in 1924. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Fitting, TrackMan Performance Centre, Golf Simulator, Golf Cart Rental, Club Hire, Practice Facilities, and 3 more.
Bayview's beginnings are tied to John Orr, a New Zealand sheep farmer who arrived in Australia with his wife Christina in 1924. The couple purchased land known as Winnererremy Swamp, where the keen golfer constructed six holes for his own use. Orr soon invited others to play while Christina provided afternoon tea.
By 1928 a small clubhouse had been erected and an honesty tin beside the first tee collected one shilling per round. A larger clubhouse followed in 1932, and more land across Cabbage Tree Road was acquired in 1933.
The course occupies varied terrain split by Cabbage Tree Road, with tree-lined holes, slopes adjoining Katandra Bushland and wetlands around the short par-3 eighth. The official course tour identifies five dogleg holes and credits Craig Parry with designing holes 9, 15 and 16 during later alterations.
The organization used several names in its early decades, including Bayview Links, Bayview Country Club and Bayview Country Golf Links. Bayview Golf Club Limited was formed in 1948. Members leased the property until raising the funds to purchase it from the Orr family in 1967.
In February 2009 the club opened a new clubhouse following a $7.2 million investment. More recent course work has included renovated greens with input from Craig Parry.
Bayview remains a privately owned members club while allowing social players to book weekday and weekend golf. The clubhouse provides a restaurant, bar and members facilities, and the golf operation includes a professional shop and a TrackMan-equipped performance centre.
