Origins

The Woodlands Course formed one half of Bintan Lagoon Resort's original two-course golf development. Ian Baker-Finch was commissioned for the inland course, while the resort's second course was designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Did You Know?
Bintan Lagoon was developed with two separate 18-hole courses by major-championship winners: Ian Baker-Finch designed the Woodlands Course and Jack Nicklaus designed the Sea View Course.

Design Philosophy

Unlike the Sea View Course, the Woodlands routing uses the island's inland tropical landscape. The course runs through undulating, tree-lined terrain and was built with multiple teeing distances ranging from 4,405 to 6,211 metres.

Development

Golf sources date the Woodlands Course to 1997. Together with the Sea View Course it gave Bintan Lagoon 36 holes of resort golf.

Today

Current operating status is unresolved. Where2Golf records a 2020 closure and states that it is uncertain whether the course will reopen. A current official resort source confirming normal golf operations could not be verified during this research pass.
