Brookwater Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Brookwater in south-east Queensland. The championship layout was created by Greg Norman and Bob Harrison and opened in 2002. Golf Australia records a championship length of 6,469 metres, with the men's Black tees rated at scratch 75 and slope 146.
The course occupies strongly undulating Australian bushland, with eucalyptus trees, rock formations, natural waterways and substantial bunkering forming much of its character. Visitors can play the course, and the facility includes a driving range, putting facilities, clubhouse dining and golf instruction. After roughly 15 years of play, Greg Norman Golf Course Design returned for the course's first major overhaul.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,469m (7,075 yards), course rating 75 and slope rating 146. Designed by Greg Norman and Bob Harrison, the course originally opened in 2002. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Restaurant, Bar, Café, Golf Lessons, Membership.
Brookwater was developed as the golf component of a residential community southwest of Brisbane. Greg Norman and his then design chief Bob Harrison routed the course through a steep, heavily vegetated site, using the existing valleys, ridges, eucalyptus forest and waterways rather than imposing a conventional open layout. It opened in 2002 and was one of the most significant new courses built in the Brisbane area in that period.
The original Norman-Harrison routing uses substantial elevation changes and separated playing corridors, with few parallel fairways. Sloping ground, large bunkers and demanding approach angles were integral to the design. The course acquired a reputation for being particularly difficult, and that difficulty eventually influenced the scope of the later renovation.
After approximately 15 years, Greg Norman Golf Course Design returned for a progressive overhaul. The front nine reopened in late 2016 and the complete course returned in early 2017. Green complexes were resurfaced and restored closer to their original dimensions, severe contours were softened in places, fairways were widened, bunkers were altered or removed, vegetation was cleared from playing corridors and waterways, and drainage and irrigation were upgraded.
The routing and course length remained essentially unchanged.
Brookwater entered Australian national course rankings soon after opening and remained a regular Top-100 selection. Golf Australia Magazine ranked it No. 29 nationally in its 2018 list, with the renovation receiving particular recognition for improving the putting surfaces and restoring green dimensions.
Brookwater remains an 18-hole public-access championship course. Golf Australia's rating data lists the Black men's tees at par 72, scratch 75 and slope 146, with additional rated Gold, Silver, Red and Jade configurations.
