Origins

Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927, with play initially conducted informally before the first annual general meeting in August 1928. Alderman W. R.

Atkinson of Lidcombe Council became the first president, while New South Wales Premier J. T. Lang was among the vice-presidents.

The club's name was derived from advertising for the Carnarvon Hill Estate.

Did You Know?
The present course occupies land that included the former Lidcombe Sports and Showground and grazing paddocks used by Lidcombe State Hospital.

Development

Carnarvon moved through several sites as land use around Lidcombe and Silverwater changed. Planning for the present course began during the Second World War. Land comprising the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and part of Lidcombe State Hospital's grazing paddocks was assembled and leased to the club in 1947.

The new course was constructed from 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East and officially opened in December 1949.

Today

Carnarvon remains at the Nottinghill Road site as an 18-hole par-72 club that combines membership golf with visitor, social and corporate play.
