The Montgomerie Course at Carton House is an 18-hole, par-72 inland course at the Carton Demesne near Maynooth. The resort lists the championship length at 7,301 yards and credits the design to Colin Montgomerie. Although commonly described as an inland links, it occupies an open parkland setting rather than coastal linksland.
Montgomerie's design uses steep-faced bunkers, pronounced swales and strongly contoured green surrounds to evoke traditional links strategy. The course has substantial tournament history: it hosted the Irish Open in 2005, 2006 and 2013, the 2004 Irish Amateur Open Championship and the 2010 Handa Irish Senior's Open. Golf World named it Best New Design of the Year 2004.
