Colin Montgomerie (born June 23, 1963, in Glasgow, Scotland) is renowned as one of the most accomplished European Tour golfers, but over the past two decades he has also built a solid reputation as a golf course designer. His firm, Colin Montgomerie Design (also known as European Golf Design in collaborations), has produced signature courses worldwide, including The Montgomerie at Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, which opened in July 2007 and reflects his Scottish links heritage with deep pot bunkers, narrow fairways, dramatic tee shots over valleys and strategic, penal challenges.
His design philosophy emphasizes working with natural site features, rewarding accuracy, and sustainability through thoughtful routing, terrain contouring, and bunker placement.
