Charlestown Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Hillsborough in the Lake Macquarie area of New South Wales. The club was formed on 18 October 1971 after several years of attempts to secure land for a golf course. It operates as both a members' club and a venue that explicitly welcomes social golfers, with public playing periods published throughout the week.
The facility includes a large driving range equipped with Toptracer technology, short-game practice facilities, golf carts, a clubhouse, restaurant and bar. Charlestown was named the 2023 Golf NSW Country Club of the Year. Its current official site publishes visitor green fees for either nine or 18 holes, twilight golf and competition play.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. The course originally opened in 1971. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Golf Cart Hire, Club Hire, Restaurant, Bar, Function Room, Pro Shop.
Efforts to establish a golf course in the area began in July 1966, but it took until September 1971 for the path to be cleared to form a club and develop the site. Charlestown Golf Club was formally established at a public meeting at Charlestown Community Centre on 18 October 1971, attended by roughly 200 to 250 people. Jack Barker was elected among the inaugural office bearers, and the club began with a modest weatherboard cottage as its clubhouse.
From that relatively basic beginning the property developed into an 18-hole par-72 golf facility with a substantial clubhouse and practice operation. The modern range has more than two dozen bays and Toptracer ball-tracking technology, while the clubhouse now supports dining, functions and social activity.
Golf NSW named Charlestown its 2023 Country Club of the Year.
Charlestown combines membership golf with extensive published social-golf access. The official site lists daily windows when non-members can play and publishes visitor, twilight and competition fees.
