Clarks Beach Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 public-access parkland course at 100 Stevenson Road, Clarks Beach, Auckland. The club was formed at a community meeting in June 1983 after Franklin County Council offered reserve land for a local golf course. Noel Hayden, who had previous golf-course architecture experience, became the club's resident professional and course architect.
Volunteers built the first nine holes, which were completed by 1988, before additional leased land allowed development of the back nine. The Blue course measures 5,319 metres and is rated 67.9 with a slope of 121; White measures 5,028 metres and Yellow 4,715 metres. The course runs close to the Manukau Harbour and is associated with mature pohutukawa, coastal wind and a significant bird and marine environment.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,319m, course rating 67.9 and slope rating 121. Designed by Noel Hayden, the course originally opened in 1988. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Club Hire, Golf Carts, Clubhouse, Café, Bar.
The club began at a public meeting on 19 June 1983, when local residents voted to establish a golf club and Franklin County Council made reserve land available. Dick Talijancich, Con Flinkenberg and Noel Hayden were among the central early figures.
Noel Hayden used his previous course-development experience to shape a practical community course on low-lying coastal land, with the early nine initially using alternate tees to create an 18-hole playing sequence.
The first nine were completed by 1988. Additional land was subsequently leased for the back nine, allowing the club to develop into a full 18-hole layout.
Clarks Beach remains a member club that actively welcomes green-fee visitors and plays an environmental role along the Manukau Harbour margin.
