Akarana Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-70 course in Mount Roskill, Auckland. The club was formally incorporated in 1927 and has remained on the former Winstone farm site since its beginnings in the late 1920s. Its official course history describes two distinct nines: a shorter inner loop playing to par 34 and a longer outer nine.
From the back tees the course measures approximately 5,800 metres, with an official course rating of 70.6 and slope of 121. Course architect Chris Pitman redesigned holes 7, 8 and 11 in 2003. Since 2012 the club has installed more than 3.5 kilometres of fairway drainage, rebuilt drainage in all 32 bunkers and continued extending all-weather paths.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 70, 5,800m, course rating 70.6 and slope rating 121. The course originally opened in 1927. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Golf Shop, Golf Cart Hire, Club Hire, Dining, Bar, and 1 more.
A group of golf enthusiasts established Akarana on the Winstone farm at Mount Roskill during the late 1920s. The club was formally incorporated in 1927 and, unlike many metropolitan clubs that later relocated, Akarana has remained on that original site.
The present routing has two distinct halves. The inner nine is the shorter loop and plays to par 34, while the outer nine contains the longer par fives and more out-of-bounds pressure. The club specifically identifies the par-three 8th as 176 metres from the blue tee, with bunkering on one side and water on the other.
Chris Pitman redesigned holes 7, 8 and 11 in 2003. Since 2012 the club has undertaken substantial infrastructure work, including more than 3.5 kilometres of new drainage, upgraded drainage and sand in all 32 bunkers and continued extension of its all-weather path system.
Akarana remains an 18-hole metropolitan members' club that also accepts visitor golf subject to protected member times. The official site lists practice facilities including a driving range, putting green and chipping green.
