About Cooroy Golf Club

Cooroy Golf Club is an 18-hole community golf course in Queensland's Noosa hinterland. The club was formed at a public meeting on 15 October 1934. Foundation president Dr M.

Over subsequent decades the course was enlarged to its present 18-hole form through extensive member and volunteer work.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Scott Murphy and M. Outridge, the course originally opened in 1936. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Golf Carts, Club Hire, Pull Buggy Hire, Golf Lessons, Clubhouse.

Origins

Thirty-eight people attended the founding meeting on 15 October 1934. The group leased Crown land for £8 per year and also used adjoining land known as Mac's paddock. Dr M.

Outridge and Scott Murphy designed the early course by working through the existing undergrowth.

Design Philosophy

The original layout was shaped by limited club finances and extensive volunteer labour rather than a large professional construction programme. The founders aimed to create an accessible club rather than an exclusive one.

Development

The first golf was played over six holes with sand greens. The nine-hole course was officially opened over the King's Birthday weekend in June 1936. Grass greens began appearing in 1939, and the course subsequently evolved into the present 18-hole layout through generations of member work.

Today

Cooroy remains an 18-hole visitor-friendly golf club with social golf, competition access for appropriately handicapped visitors and a continuing emphasis on affordability.
