About Maroochy River Golf Club

Maroochy River Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Bli Bli on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. The present course was designed by Graham Marsh and opened for play in June 2015 after the club relocated from its former Horton Park site in Maroochydore. The longest published configuration measures 6,441 metres and carries a course rating of 74 and slope of 131.

Several shorter rated configurations are available, reflecting the club's broad competition and social-golf use. The current property also contains an extensive golf complex with a driving range, practice areas and mini golf, while the clubhouse includes a bistro and bar. The organisation itself is considerably older than the present course: its history begins with the formation of Horton Park Golf Club in 1950, an initial course opening in 1956 and a later 18-hole redesign by Arthur Gazzard in 1970.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,441m, course rating 74 and slope rating 131. Designed by Graham Marsh, the course originally opened in 2015. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Green, Practice Bunker, Mini Golf, Pro Shop, Bistro, Bar, Restaurant, and 2 more.

Origins

The organisation began as Horton Park Golf Club after local golfer Bill Coffey learned of available trust land in 1950. Coffey and pharmacist Fred Jacobs organised a public meeting on June 15, 1950, and the Horton Park name was chosen in honour of the land donor. The original course was officially opened in 1956.

Design Philosophy

For the current course, Graham Marsh was commissioned to create an entirely new layout on former caneland west of Kunda Park. The project had to address flood-storage requirements, acid sulphate soils and degraded agricultural land as part of the course development.

Development

Arthur Gazzard designed a new 18-hole configuration for Horton Park around 1970, and the old course underwent substantial redevelopment again from 1988 to 1996. Later residential and commercial pressure prompted the club to sell its 53-hectare Maroochydore property and relocate. Members voted for the new name Maroochy River Golf Club, and the Graham Marsh course at Bli Bli opened in June 2015.

Today

The Bli Bli course is now the permanent home of Maroochy River Golf Club and is supported by a driving range, mini golf, clubhouse, bistro and bar.
