Origins

Donald Ross designed the course as Dunedin Isles Golf Club. It opened on 1 January 1927, and contemporary reporting recorded Ross's unusually strong praise for the property and its combination of natural terrain and hazards.

Did You Know?
During the 2024 restoration, Kris Spence discovered that Ross's original greens had not been destroyed but were buried beneath later construction material.

Development

The City of Dunedin eventually acquired the property. From 1945 through 1962 it served as the home of the PGA of America and hosted 18 senior professional championships. Later alterations reduced green sizes and changed bunkering.

The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Recognition

The restored course received Golf Inc.'s Renovation of the Year award in the public-course category after the 2024 project.

Today

The City owns and manages the course as a public municipal facility. Kris Spence's restoration returned green contours, bunker forms and other Ross features while modernising irrigation, drainage, tees and turf.
