Golf Course Architect
Donald James Ross (1872–1948) was a Scottish‑born professional golfer turned golf course designer. S.
in 1899 and began at Oakley Country Club near Boston. He gained national prominence through his work at Pinehurst and went on to design or renovate nearly 400 courses across North America over his career, earning a reputation for naturalistic routing, complex green contours, and strategic playability.
Ross also co‑founded—and served as first president of—the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1947 and was posthumously inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977.
