About EagleSticks

EagleSticks Golf Club is a public 18-hole course in Zanesville, Ohio, designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan. The course opened in June 1990 after the McClelland family decided to convert its rolling horse farm into a golf property.

EagleSticks plays to par 70 and measures 6,508 yards from the Gold tees, 6,128 from Blue, 5,493 from White and 4,233 from Red. The Hurdzan routing occupies roughly 150 acres and uses pronounced elevation changes, uneven lies and extensive bunkering; the club states that the course contains 90 bunkers and more than 100 feet of elevation change across the property. Bentgrass is used on the fairways and greens.

The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 70, 5,951m (6,508 yards). Designed by Michael Hurdzan, the course originally opened in 1990. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Short-Game Area, Restaurant, Event Center, Stay and Play, Pro Shop.

Origins

The McClelland family owned the rolling property as a horse farm before deciding in 1988 to create a golf course. Michael Hurdzan was selected as architect, and construction reshaped the farm's hills and valleys into an 18-hole layout. EagleSticks opened in June 1990.

The EagleSticks name was chosen through a local newspaper contest whose winner received a lifetime membership.

Design Philosophy

Hurdzan used the property's elevation and uneven ground as central design features rather than flattening the site. The course has extensive bunkering, with the club counting 90 bunkers, and more than 100 feet of overall elevation change.

Recognition

Golf Digest named EagleSticks 2nd Runner-Up in its 1991 Best New Public Golf Course recognition. The course later appeared on Golf Digest's Top 100 Public Courses list in 2004.

Today

EagleSticks remains a public Zanesville golf operation with online tee times, practice facilities, events and stay-and-play offerings.
