Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre in Crans-Montana, Valais, operates two courses: the 18-hole Severiano Ballesteros course and the 9-hole Jack Nicklaus course. The main 18-hole course was inaugurated in July 1929, shortly after which British architect Harry Nicholson remodelled greens and added bunkers. Severiano Ballesteros was commissioned in the 1990s to modernise the championship course, including a major greens reconstruction beginning after the 1997 European Masters.
The second course began as the 9-hole Xires layout in 1951 and was completely transformed to Jack Nicklaus's design, reopening in July 1988. Crans-sur-Sierre has hosted the Swiss Open, later the Omega European Masters, since 1939. Visitors are accepted subject to handicap and club-affiliation requirements.
The course is a 27-hole mountain golf course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course originally opened in 1929. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Golf Academy, Golf Cart Rental, Electric Trolley Rental, Manual Trolley Rental, Club Rental, Clubhouse, Restaurant.
Golf developed on the Crans plateau in the 1920s; the club was founded in 1924 and the reconstructed 18-hole Plan-Bramois course was inaugurated in July 1929.
Nicholson reshaped the early course through green and bunker work. Ballesteros later increased championship demands while retaining accessibility for resort golfers. Nicklaus transformed the shorter Xires ground into a modern nine-hole course.
A second nine-hole course opened in 1951. It was rebuilt as the Jack Nicklaus course in the 1980s, while the main course underwent major Ballesteros work in the 1990s.
The uninterrupted association with the Swiss Open/European Masters made Crans-sur-Sierre one of continental Europe's best-known professional tournament sites.
The club operates both courses, a golf academy and visitor facilities in the Crans-Montana resort.
