About Hendricks Field Golf Course

Hendricks Field Golf Course is a public 18-hole course in Belleville, New Jersey, opened in 1929 as the only publicly accessible course designed by noted Golden Age architect Charles Banks. Operated by the Essex County Park System, the course is built around several of golf's most famous "template" holes — an Alps at the 1st, a Redan at the 8th, a Biarritz at the 12th, and a Principal's Nose at the 15th — giving it an unusually rich architectural pedigree for a municipal facility.

The course plays to a par of 70 over 6,113 yards from the Blue tees (course rating 69.4, slope 116), running through cherry trees and mature oaks. The two nines play distinctly: the front nine carries three of the four holes over 400 yards, while the back nine is shorter and noticeably tighter, rewarding accuracy over length. Renovation work led by architect Stephen Kay has reconstructed tees, bunkers and greens and substantially upgraded the course's drainage in recent years.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 70, 6,113 yards, course rating 69.4 and slope rating 116. Designed by Charles Banks, the course originally opened in 1929. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Golf Cart Rental.
