Le Château Golf Course is Heritage Golf Club's original 18-hole championship course at Bel Ombre in southern Mauritius. The club confirms that Peter Matkovich designed the par-72 course and that it opened for play in 2004. Its longest current published tee measures 6,498 metres, with additional official tee distances of 6,121, 5,740, 5,214 and 4,761 metres.
The routing occupies about 100 hectares within the historic Bel Ombre estate and uses the natural foothill terrain around a 19th-century château, with established trees, streams and lakes incorporated into the layout. Le Château has a substantial professional-tournament record: Heritage confirms that it hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in 2015, 2017 and 2019, a tournament co-sanctioned by major international tours. The course also includes access to Heritage Golf Club's broader practice infrastructure, including a driving range, putting facilities and the Golfzon Leadbetter Academy.

The first championship course at Heritage Golf Club was developed within the historic 2,500-hectare Bel Ombre estate. Peter Matkovich laid the course across approximately 100 hectares around the grounds of the estate's 19th-century château. It opened for play in 2004 and established golf as a major component of the Bel Ombre resort development.
Matkovich worked with the existing foothill contours rather than imposing a flat routing. Mature trees, existing streams and lakes were incorporated into a parkland layout, with multiple tee positions allowing the course to change substantially in length. Heritage describes accuracy and course management as central to the design.
For almost two decades Le Château was Heritage's principal 18-hole course. The resort later expanded with La Réserve Golf Links, creating a 45-hole operation when the newer championship course and the existing par-3 course are included. Le Château has retained its separate identity rather than being absorbed into the newer routing.
Le Château hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in 2015, 2017 and 2019 and has accumulated repeated World Golf Awards recognition, including a run as Indian Ocean's Best Golf Course. Heritage also lists the course as GEO Certified.
Le Château remains one of two separate 18-hole championship courses at Heritage Golf Club. It operates alongside La Réserve Golf Links and a nine-hole par-3 course, with shared academy and practice infrastructure.
