About La Reserve golf club

La Réserve Golf Links is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Heritage Golf Club in Bel Ombre, Mauritius. It opened for play in November 2023 shortly before hosting the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Peter Matkovich and 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen co-designed the course on elevated former agricultural ground overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Their routing descends approximately 200 metres from the high first-tee area toward the clubhouse and incorporates running fairways, revetted pot bunkers, long grasses, raised or infinity-style greens and substantial natural movement in the ground. Heritage describes La Réserve as the first and only contemporary links in the Indian Ocean. Access is restricted principally to Heritage Golf Club members and residents or guests of associated Heritage resorts and villas rather than functioning as an unrestricted daily-fee public course.

The course is an 18-hole links golf course. Designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen, the course originally opened in 2023. It is open to resort guests. On-site facilities include Villa, Suite, Restaurant, Driving range, Short game area, Putting green, TPI fitting studio, Golf academy.

Origins

Heritage Golf Club developed La Réserve as a second major championship course at Bel Ombre. Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen collaborated on the design, with the project intended to reinterpret traditional links strategy in Mauritius rather than reproduce the lush parkland style common to tropical resort golf.

Design Philosophy

Matkovich and Oosthuizen used the site's elevation and natural movement to create a predominantly downhill routing with running fairways, pot bunkers, long grasses and greens designed to encourage multiple trajectories and ground shots. The course drops roughly 200 metres from its elevated starting area toward the clubhouse. Matkovich has described shaping the land to create the visual and playing character of links golf despite the tropical location.

Development

The course officially opened for play in November 2023. Within weeks it staged the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

Recognition

Heritage Golf Club reports that La Réserve was ranked 28th in Golfweek's 2026 Top 100 International Courses outside the United States.

Today
