Leura Golf Club is a historic 18-hole mountain course in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. The club officially began golf on 29 November 1902 with nine holes on its Fitzroy Street site and later expanded to a full 18-hole course. The current Blue scorecard is par 70 and 5,372 yards, with a slope rating of 124; the Red course is also par 70 and measures 4,793 yards with a slope of 114.
The routing contains a relatively high number of par threes as well as several par fives. Leura remained a private member-owned club but has long made golf available to visitors. Major changes to the property included gradual expansion during the 1920s, completion of a redesigned lower nine in 1970, and another realignment associated with the Fairmont development in the 1980s.
The course is an 18-hole mountain golf course. It plays to par 70, 4,912m (5,372 yards), slope rating 124. The course originally opened in 1902. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bistro, Bar, Golf Cart Hire, Club Hire, Pull Buggy Hire.
Golf at Leura began in difficult conditions during the Federation drought. The club officially opened on 29 November 1902 with nine holes on its Fitzroy Street site, making it one of the early non-city golf courses in New South Wales. It was established as a private, member-owned club, initially without a reliable water supply.
A bark shelter served as the first clubhouse before a Federation-style clubhouse was built in 1908. Land for another nine holes was acquired before the First World War, and expansion continued through the 1920s until an integrated 18-hole course was created. A redesign undertaken before the Second World War ultimately culminated in a new lower nine opening in 1970.
Financial difficulty in the late 1970s led to an arrangement with developers connected with the Fairmont project. That deal produced another lower-nine realignment, a new clubhouse and redevelopment of the old clubhouse site. The realignment was completed in late 1987 and the current clubhouse opened in June 1988.
Leura remains member-owned but openly accommodates visitors. Its present course is a compact par-70 mountain layout on the Blue Mountains plateau, supported by a clubhouse, pro shop, restaurant and bar.
