The Lakeside Course is the original nine-hole course at Mendip Spring Golf & Country Club in Congresbury, North Somerset. It predates the club's 18-hole Brinsea Championship Course, which followed in 1992. The wider 27-hole complex was designed by Terry Murray on former farmland known as Brinsea Farm.
Lakeside is a fully measured nine-hole course of 2,329 yards, consisting of six par fours and three par threes for a total par of 34. The club states that the course conforms to the current World Handicap System and is used for regular competitions as well as casual golf. Unlike the Brinsea Course, visitors do not require an official handicap and can turn up to play Lakeside.
The course is a 9-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 34, 2,329 yards. The course was designed by Terry Murray. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Suite, Room, Clubhouse, Bar, Restaurant, Golf buggy hire, Trolley hire, Corporate Membership.
The site was formerly Brinsea Farm, approximately 200 acres of farmland associated with a health club known as Fahrenheit. Dennis and Claire Bidwell obtained permission to develop the property for golf. Terry Murray designed the resulting Mendip Spring complex.
Natural springs flowing from the nearby Mendip Hills influenced both the club's name and its landscape. The club states that these springs feed approximately 11 acres of water features throughout the overall golf complex. Lakeside itself uses lakes and an orchard within its compact nine-hole routing.
Lakeside was the first course at Mendip Spring. The 18-hole Brinsea Championship Course followed in 1992, creating the present 27-hole facility. Lakeside has subsequently been maintained as a fully measured course and adapted to the World Handicap System.
Lakeside remains a nine-hole, par-34 course of 2,329 yards. Visitors can play without a handicap certificate, while organised competitions provide a route into regular club golf.
