Monash Country Club is a private golf club at Ingleside on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Its institutional history begins in 1931 with the Monash Social Golf Club, established by Jewish golfers who faced restrictions joining many existing clubs. The group initially played at several Sydney courses before deciding after the Second World War to create a permanent home open to members irrespective of faith or background.
Work on the current property began in 1947 and the first nine holes opened in 1950. The course later hosted the Australian PGA Championship in 1964 and 1984, with Greg Norman winning the latter edition. Monash has continued to modify the course: Bob Harrison redesigned the second, third, eighth and 11th greens in 2014, while James Wilcher later rebuilt the 17th and 18th holes, including a redesign of the 18th green in 2017.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. The course originally opened in 1950. It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Practice Facilities, TrackMan Teaching Studio.
Monash traces its history to 1931, when the Monash Social Golf Club was established and named for Lieutenant General Sir John Monash. Its Jewish founders faced restrictions gaining membership at many established clubs, so the group initially held events at courses around Sydney. In 1946 the members decided to establish their own permanent course and broadened the organisation's purpose, adopting the Monash Country Club name.
Construction at the Elanora Heights property began in late 1947. The first nine holes opened in 1950 and an original clubhouse followed in 1952. That clubhouse was destroyed by bushfire in December 1957 and a larger replacement opened in 1959.
Later work included 1992 clubhouse extensions, Bob Harrison's redesign of four greens in 2014, James Wilcher's redevelopment of holes 17 and 18, a major irrigation project and drainage upgrades.
The club's championship history includes hosting the Australian PGA Championship in 1964 and 1984. Greg Norman won the 1984 event.
Monash remains a private Northern Beaches club. Recent investment has concentrated on irrigation, drainage, greens and bunkering, practice facilities and an indoor TrackMan teaching studio.
