About Newark Golf Centre

Newark Golf Centre is a golf practice facility at The Showground on Drove Lane in Coddington, near Newark, Nottinghamshire. Until the end of 2025 it also operated the "Little Nine," a nine-hole par-3 course open to golfers of all ages and abilities without the usual club restrictions. The official site described its holes as ranging from 91 to 161 yards and positioned the course for both beginners and experienced players working on their short games.

Newark Golf Centre announced that the golf course would close permanently on 31 December 2025, and that its Pitch and Putt and FootGolf activities would consequently be unavailable during 2026 unless alternative land could be found. The remaining golf operation continues as a practice and retail facility. Its driving range has 24 covered, floodlit bays plus six outdoor grass bays, an outfield extending more than 275 yards, and an all-weather short-game area with a practice bunker.

It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Covered Driving Range, Floodlit Driving Range, Grass Driving Range Bays, Short Game Practice Area, Practice Bunker, Indoor Putting Area, Golf Shop, and 2 more.

Design Philosophy

The former Little Nine was deliberately configured as a short par-3 course accessible to golfers regardless of age or ability. Newark Golf Centre described holes ranging from 91 to 161 yards, allowing experienced players to use the layout for short-game practice while providing beginners with a setting in which to learn without the pressures associated with a conventional full-length course.

The Little Nine golf course closed permanently on 31 December 2025, while Newark Golf Centre's driving range, shop and coaching operation continued.

Development

By the mid-2000s Newark Golf Centre was established at The Showground beside the former RAF Winthorpe site, with local historical material recording a golf-centre driving range there in 2005. Its later operation combined the Little Nine par-3 course with FootGolf, a driving range, practice facilities, retail and instruction. A significant change came at the end of 2025.

In an announcement dated 15 December 2025, Newark Golf Centre said that its golf course would close permanently on 31 December. The announcement also stated that Pitch and Putt and FootGolf would no longer be available in 2026 unless alternative land could be found, while the driving range, shop and golf coaching would be unaffected.

Today

Newark Golf Centre continues as a public golf practice, coaching and retail facility rather than an operating nine-hole course. Its driving range provides 24 covered and floodlit bays, six open-air grass bays and an all-weather short-game area with a practice bunker. The flat range outfield measures more than 275 yards by 250 yards, with target distances supplied from individual bays.

The centre also has an indoor putting area and a 3,000-square-foot golf shop. Golf coaching remains available. The official site states that the facility is open to everyone regardless of age or ability.
