River Ridge Golf Club is a public municipal golf complex at 2401 West Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard, California. The facility contains two separate courses, The Vineyard and Victoria Lakes, rather than one 18-hole layout. The Vineyard Course opened in 1986 and is credited to William F.
Bell; current course data lists its Blue tees at 6,730 yards, par 72, rated 72.6 with a slope of 129. Victoria Lakes is a later John Millhouse design and has its own independent par-72 scorecard, extending to 7,081 yards from the Black tees in current records. River Ridge originated as a City of Oxnard golf development begun in the mid-1980s and continues as a public facility.
The course was designed by William Bell Jr and John Millhouse. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Facility, Golf Lessons, Café, Bar, Event Facilities, Wedding Venue.
The City of Oxnard issued bonds in 1984 and began construction of a municipal golf project near the Santa Clara River. The first course became The Vineyard and opened in 1986.
The two layouts represent separate generations of course architecture. William F. Bell's Vineyard routing and John Millhouse's later Victoria Lakes course each have their own hole sequence, tee ratings and playing character.
The early municipal golf development experienced financial and operational difficulties. In December 1993 the city appointed High Tide and Green Grass, Inc. to operate River Ridge.
Oxnard subsequently pursued the addition of a second 18-hole course, ultimately creating today's 36-hole complex.
River Ridge remains a public 36-hole City of Oxnard golf complex with two independently bookable courses, practice facilities, instruction and food-and-beverage service.
