Sandy Hills Links is the second course developed at Rosapenna and was designed by Irish golf architect Pat Ruddy. It opened in 2003 and runs through the large dunes at the centre of the Rosapenna property above Sheephaven Bay. Published course information gives a back-tee length of about 7,255 yards and par 70.
The routing is distinct from Rosapenna's older Old Tom Morris Links and the later St Patrick's Links, and architect credits for those courses should not be transferred to Sandy Hills. Rosapenna's current golf operation serves Sandy Hills from the Golf Pavilion, which contains the main golf shop and office, locker rooms, bar and restaurant. Caddies, drive buggies and electric trollies can be reserved.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 70, 6,634m (7,255 yards). Designed by Pat Ruddy, the course originally opened in 2003. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Golf Pavilion, Golf shop, Locker rooms, Bar, Restaurant, Caddies, Golf buggies, Electric trollies, and 1 more.
Sandy Hills was created as Rosapenna's second course, extending a golf property whose history already reached back to Old Tom Morris. Pat Ruddy was commissioned to route the new course through the large dune system at the centre of the estate.
Ruddy's routing moves directly through the dunes, using their elevation and scale to isolate holes and create repeated changes in direction and elevation. The course is structurally separate from the older Old Tom Morris Links below it.
Sandy Hills opened in 2003 and later became one of three distinct links at Rosapenna after the addition of St Patrick's Links.
Rosapenna currently displays rankings for Sandy Hills including #17 in Ireland by Golf Digest, #50 in the UK and Ireland by Golf Monthly and #88 in the UK and Ireland by Golf Magazine.
Sandy Hills is served from Rosapenna's Golf Pavilion alongside the Old Tom Morris Links, while St Patrick's operates from the separate Links House.
