The present club was formed in 1892, initially playing in Adelaide's North Parklands and later at Glenelg. Land near Grange was bought in 1904 and the Seaton links opened in 1906.
MacKenzie's 1926 plan exploited the natural dunes and sand craters, widened strategic choices and changed green and fairway positioning to make angles central to play.
The club progressively implemented MacKenzie's recommendations and later landscape work reshaped some flatter peripheral holes while retaining the core dune character.
Royal Adelaide has long held high national and international rankings and has repeatedly hosted Australia's leading amateur and professional championships.
The club remains private, with controlled visitor access and an emphasis on walking golf.
