Golf Course Architect
Tom Doak (born 1961 in New York, raised in Stamford, Connecticut) studied landscape architecture at Cornell University and furthered his education with hands‑on caddying and touring classic links across Britain and Ireland. He apprenticed under Pete Dye, refining his construction and design skills.
Over a career spanning four decades, he founded Renaissance Golf Design and became renowned for his minimalist approach—letting natural landforms guide routing and play. Doak’s portfolio includes celebrated courses like Barnbougle Dunes (Australia), Castle Stuart and Woodhall Spa’s National Golf Centre (UK), Traigh Golf Course (Scotland), Stone Eagle (USA), and many others.
