About Sabah Golf and Country Club

Sabah Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 private club in Kota Kinabalu and the oldest 18-hole course in Sabah. Robert Muir Graves designed the original course, which opened for play in 1976. The current back-tee layout measures 6,335 metres and carries a course rating of 73.3.

Its terrain is hilly, with undulating fairways, lakes, bunkering and changing wind conditions. Nelson & Haworth were commissioned in 2003 to redesign the greens and improve the course; their work included drainage improvements, regrading steep landing areas, selective tree removal and some routing changes, notably moving the ninth green to a lakeside location. The club provides a 14-bay driving range and two practice putting greens as well as a pro shop, changing rooms, gym, tennis and other country-club facilities.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,335m (6,928 yards). Designed by Robert Muir Graves, the course originally opened in 1976. It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Full Membership, Junior Membership, Driving range, Putting greens, Pro shop, Changing rooms, Gymnasium, Tennis courts, and 4 more.

Origins

Sabah Golf & Country Club was established in Kota Kinabalu with Robert Muir Graves commissioned to create the course. It opened for play in 1976 and became Sabah's first 18-hole course.

Did You Know?
The 2004 redesign moved the ninth green from a hillside position to a lakeside location.

Design Philosophy

Graves used the hilly tropical property to create an exacting parkland course with elevation changes, water and tree-lined corridors.

Development

By the early 2000s the course required substantial rehabilitation. Nelson & Haworth were engaged in 2003 to redesign greens and improve overall playability. Their work addressed drainage, steep fairway landing areas, non-native trees and selected routing details while retaining most of the original layout.

Recognition

The course has hosted the Sabah Masters and other significant state-level competition.

Today

SGCC remains a private member club that also accommodates visiting golfers and maintains a broad range of golf and recreational facilities.
