Golf Course Architect
Robert Muir Graves (1930–2003) was an American landscape architect who transitioned into golf course design around 1960. S.
and abroad, serving as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1974–75. He was known for integrating natural features—like fir stumps and root systems—as aesthetic hazards and art, and focused on accessible public and municipal courses with minimalist, site‑responsive design elements.
He also lectured widely (Harvard GSD, UC Berkeley, Utah State, UMass) and co‑authored influential books on golf design, later partnering in the firm Graves & Pascuzzo.
