About San Vicente Golf Club

San Vicente Golf Club is the 18-hole, par-72 course at San Vicente Resort in Ramona, California. The original course was designed by Ted Robinson Sr and constructed in the early 1970s. A major 2021 renovation led by architect Andy Staples rebuilt the green complexes and bunkers and introduced broader short-grass collection areas, strategic approach angles and more ground-game options.

The resort's current course information describes five sets of tees ranging from 4,483 to 6,822 yards and reports men's slope ratings ranging from 104 to 131 and women's slopes from 116 to 144. Practice facilities include a driving range plus putting and chipping greens, while the golf operation also provides instruction and a golf shop. The routing uses the rolling inland terrain around Ramona, with oak trees, ponds and other elevation and landscape changes.

The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. Designed by Ted Robinson Sr, the course originally opened in 1971. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Golf Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant.

Origins

The course was originally constructed in the early 1970s and designed by California architect Ted Robinson Sr as the golf component of the San Vicente property in Ramona.

Design Philosophy

The 2021 work by Andy Staples emphasized strategic angles into greens, expanded short-grass surrounds and multiple recovery options. The resort describes forgiving landing areas from the tee combined with greater risk-reward decisions on approaches.

Development

In 2021 the course underwent a substantial renovation designed by Andy Staples and constructed by Heritage Links. The project rebuilt all green complexes and bunkers and changed the character of the areas surrounding the greens. The resort subsequently received Golf Inc.

recognition for the renovation.

Recognition

The resort identifies the renovation as a Golf Inc. Renovation of the Year winner and has also publicized the course's inclusion in GOLF.com's list of Top 100 Golf Courses in the U.S. for $100 or Less.

Today

San Vicente remains an 18-hole resort course open to public players, resort guests, local homeowners and club members, with five teeing options and dedicated practice facilities.
