Sandy Golf Links, historically Sandringham Golf Links, is an 18-hole public Sandbelt course at Cheltenham in Melbourne. The original public golf site dates to 1946, when a nine-hole course designed by Vernon Morcom opened on land acquired by Sandringham City Council from Royal Melbourne Golf Club. It expanded to 18 holes during the following decade.
The modern course is effectively a new layout: Mike Cocking of OCM Golf redesigned the property in 2020 as part of the Australian Golf Centre project. The resulting par-65 course uses seven par 3s and eleven par 4s across sandy terrain adjoining Royal Melbourne. Current public online green fees are A$70 for 18 weekday holes and A$76 on weekends, with nine-hole golf A$47.
The course is an 18-hole sandbelt golf course. Designed by Vernon Morcom, the course originally opened in 1946. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Course, Practice Facilities, Golf Cart Hire, Club Hire, Café, Outdoor Bar, Australian Golf Centre.
Sandringham City Council acquired the site in 1945 and commissioned Vernon Morcom to create a public nine-hole course, which opened in 1946. More holes were added over the following years until Sandringham Golf Course became an 18-hole public facility.
The modern redesign deliberately draws on Melbourne Sandbelt principles. Mike Cocking and OCM used broad fairways, angles, short par 4s, varied par 3s, firm green surrounds and sculpted bunkering rather than relying on length.
Government investment between 2017 and 2019 enabled development of the Australian Golf Centre and complete reworking of the course. OCM rebuilt the golf layout in 2020, with all 18 redesigned holes in play by late that year. The project also created a major practice range and national high-performance facilities.
The rebuilt course has appeared in Australian public-course and national Top 100 rankings and has been widely reviewed as a public example of Sandbelt design.
Sandy operates as a public-access golf facility rather than a membership club and is maintained in close association with neighbouring Royal Melbourne.
