Golf Course Architect
Vern Morcom (born 1900 in Bendigo, Victoria; died 1976) served for nearly four decades as head greenkeeper at Kingston Heath Golf Club, where he executed Alister MacKenzie’s bunker plans and elaborated them into clustered hazards that became the course’s hallmark. In the post‑World War II decades, Morcom took on golf course design as a passionate sideline, working on numerous projects—including regional clubs like Kyneton (1950), Gisborne and Euroa (1946), Spring Valley (1948), Royal Hobart and Devonport (both mid‑1950s).
His designs, often shaped by practical constraints, emphasize natural topography, strategic bunkering, and maintenance feasibility.
