Teignmouth Golf Club is an Alister MacKenzie-designed course on Haldon Moor in Devon. A. MacKenzie.
Club directors recorded the course as ready for play on 26 April 1924, and nine holes were open the following month. The high moorland site stands more than 800 feet above sea level and has a heathland character, with gorse and heather integral to the setting. The club states that the course has changed relatively little from MacKenzie's original conception apart from extended tees and the post-war redesign of the 13th.
The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. Designed by Alister MacKenzie and Charles MacKenzie, the course originally opened in 1924. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Bar, Practice Area.
A committee led by local doctor Morton Palmer formed in 1923 and, with landowner Heber Marden's permission, commissioned Alister MacKenzie to create an 18-hole course on Little Haldon. MacKenzie's brother C.A. MacKenzie undertook the construction.
MacKenzie routed the course across high, exposed moorland covered historically by gorse and heather. The club emphasises how little the fundamental routing has changed since his original design.
The directors announced on 26 April 1924 that the course was ready, with nine holes open in May. The club purchased the course and clubhouse in 1927 for £2,500. During the Second World War holes 13, 14 and 15 became an aerodrome and much of the remainder of the back nine reverted to heathland.
The 13th was redesigned after the war, while extended tees account for much of the later change elsewhere.
Teignmouth remains an 18-hole members' club on Haldon Moor and marked its centenary in 2024.
