The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course is Hong Kong's public golf complex on Kau Sai Chau island off Sai Kung. It contains three separate 18-hole courses rather than a single 54-hole routing. The East is a par-72 layout of 6,640 yards, the North is approximately 6,700-plus yards at par 72, and the South is a shorter par-69 layout of 5,906 yards. Practice amenities include a two-level, 60-bay floodlit driving range, short-game facilities and practice greens.
The course is a 54-hole golf course. Designed by Gary Player and Nelson & Haworth, the course originally opened in 1995. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Practice greens, Short-game practice area, Golf shop, Restaurant, Golf instruction, Ferry service.
Kau Sai Chau was conceived as a community golf project to meet demand for accessible golf in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Government made land available and the Hong Kong Jockey Club funded construction of the original facilities.
Gary Player designed the original North and South layouts. The later East Course presented Nelson & Haworth with steep, rocky terrain, environmental restrictions and limited water supply. Its engineering included systems to collect stormwater for irrigation and a desalination facility.
The North and South courses began operating in 1995. Nelson & Haworth's East Course was subsequently added, opening in 2008 and taking the complex to 54 holes.
The complex has received environmental recognition, including certification associated with wildlife and golf-course environmental management.
Kau Sai Chau operates three independent 18-hole public courses with extensive practice facilities and ferry access from the Sai Kung area.
