Palmer South is the second 18-hole course at The K Club in Straffan. Designed by Arnold Palmer, it opened in 2003 and is a par-72 layout extending to approximately 7,277 yards from the back tees. Its architecture differs deliberately from the older Palmer North course: the South was conceived as an inland-links-style layout with dune-like mounding, rock features and elevated spectator positions.
Water is a significant strategic element across the course. Palmer South hosted the Smurfit European Open, including the 2004 edition won by Retief Goosen and the 2007 edition won by Colin Montgomerie. Documented hole names include the 3rd, Kingfisher Realm; 7th, Swallow Quarry; 16th, Little Grebe Dive; and 18th, Swan Island.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,654m (7,277 yards). Designed by Arnold Palmer, the course originally opened in 2003. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Pro Shop, Practice Facilities, Resort Accommodation, Restaurants, Corporate Membership, Suite, Restaurant, and 3 more.
Palmer South was developed as the second championship course at The K Club and opened in 2003, giving the Straffan resort two Arnold Palmer-designed layouts.
Unlike the older Palmer North, the South course was shaped in an inland-links style, with pronounced mounding, rock features and elevated viewing positions incorporated into the routing.
Its tournament history includes the European Open, with Retief Goosen winning there in 2004 and Colin Montgomerie in 2007.
Palmer South operates alongside Palmer North as part of The K Club's 36-hole golf offering.
