The Plantation Course at Edisto Beach is an 18-hole, par-70 public course on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Developer David Lybrand bought the approximately 300-acre property in 1971 and began creating the course with a local construction team. More than 30 acres of lakes were incorporated into the project, while existing trees were retained as important elements of the routing.
Golf architect Tom Jackson was engaged to complete the final design phase, particularly the greens and bunkering. The course opened in late 1973 under its original name, Oristo. Its opening celebration included Sam Snead, Bob Goalby and Chuck Matlock arriving by helicopter to play the first ceremonial round.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. Designed by Tom Jackson, the course originally opened in 1973. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Practice Facilities, Golf Cart Rental.
David Lybrand purchased the 300-acre property in 1971 with the intention of developing a golf course. A local team undertook much of the construction, including the creation of more than 30 acres of lakes and work around the site's established trees.
Tom Jackson was brought in for the final design phase and integrated greens and bunkers with the existing terrain and lake system.
The course opened in late 1973 as Oristo. It later became The Plantation Course, a name intended to connect the facility with the broader history of the Edisto area.
The club's history records that Oristo received recognition as one of the notable new courses in the Carolinas soon after opening.
The Plantation Course remains an 18-hole public golf facility serving Edisto Beach.
