The Serapong, the championship course at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, is known for its views of the city skyline and a layout built to test professional golfers. Stretching 6,765 meters, this par-72 course winds along Sentosa's southern coastline with doglegs, well-placed bunkers, and man-made lakes bordered by stone walls. Its defining stretch, known as the Dragon's Tail, runs from the third to the seventh hole; the par-4 5th is the course's signature hole, playing toward Singapore's downtown skyline, while the par-4 6th is guarded by a rock formation called the Dragon's Tooth.
Host of the Singapore Open since 2005 and LIV Golf Singapore since 2023, The Serapong was named World's Best Golf Course at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,765m. Designed by Ronald Fream, the course originally opened in 1982. On-site facilities include Terrace, Full Membership, Corporate Membership, Driving Range, Practice Facilities, Putting Green, Pro Shop, Golf Instruction, and 3 more.
When Sentosa Golf Club opened its first course in the 1970s, the island was still being reshaped from a former military base into Singapore's national recreation destination. Golf quickly became central to that transformation, and by the early 1980s the club moved to add a second, more demanding layout along its southern coastline. American architect Ronald Fream, who had founded the design firm Golfplan a decade earlier, was commissioned for the project, and the course opened in 1982 as The Serapong, built with tournament golf in mind and distinct from the club's older Tanjong course.
Fream's routing made use of Sentosa's coastal terrain, threading fairways between mounding, bunkers and large man-made lakes to create a layout capable of testing professionals. Its defining stretch runs from the third to the seventh hole, known as the Dragon's Tail: the par-4 5th plays toward Singapore's downtown skyline and is regarded as the course's signature hole, while the par-4 6th is guarded by a rock outcrop called the Dragon's Tooth and a false-front green nicknamed the Dragon's Tongue.
The course has been renovated twice to keep pace with professional golf. In 2007, architect Andrew Johnston of the Bates Golf Design Group led a S$12 million upgrade that rebuilt the greens with SubAir subsurface drainage and lengthened the course from 6,493 to 6,675 metres. Further renovation work followed in 2020.
These projects have kept the Serapong distinct from its sibling Tanjong course, which underwent its own major redesign in 2016.
The Serapong has been the Singapore Open's host venue since 2005 and has hosted LIV Golf Singapore every year since the event's 2023 debut. In 2023 it was named World's Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards, alongside wins for Asia's and Singapore's best course.
Sentosa Golf Club now operates two 18-hole courses, The Serapong and The Tanjong, as a private, member-focused club with an international tournament profile. The Serapong remains the flagship of the two, continuing as the club's primary venue for professional golf.
