The Tanjong, one of two 18-hole courses at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, runs along the Singapore Straits with views toward the city skyline and Marina Bay Sands. The par-72 course was rebuilt in 2015-16 under architect Andrew Johnston, who reshaped it with large, Sandbelt-style bunkers modelled on the Alister MacKenzie-designed courses of Melbourne -- a look rarely seen in Asia -- along with Zorro Zoysia fairways and water hazards in play on more than half the holes. The Tanjong has been the host venue for the HSBC Women's World Championship since 2017.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,199m (6,779 yards). Designed by Frank Pennink, the course originally opened in 1974. On-site facilities include Full Membership, Corporate Membership, Terrace.
Sentosa Golf Club's first course opened in the early 1970s, when the island was being redeveloped from a former military base into Singapore's national recreation destination. British architect Frank Pennink designed the layout, which became known as The Tanjong once the club added a second course, The Serapong, in 1982.
By the 2010s the original Pennink design was showing its age, with recurring drainage problems, bunker failures and flooding. In 2015-16, architect Andrew Johnston led a full rebuild, since branded 'The New Tanjong,' that replaced the bunkering with large sand traps modelled on Melbourne's Sand Belt courses, along with Zorro Zoysia fairways, six tee options per hole, and water hazards in play on more than half the holes.
The HSBC Women's World Championship had been played on the Serapong from 2013, but moved to the New Tanjong in 2017 as the redesigned course opened, giving each of Sentosa's two courses a dedicated marquee tournament.
The Tanjong has hosted the HSBC Women's World Championship, an LPGA Tour fixture, every year since 2017.
The Tanjong operates alongside The Serapong as one of Sentosa Golf Club's two 18-hole courses, giving the private, member-focused club a combined 36 holes on the island. It continues as the club's dedicated venue for the HSBC Women's World Championship.
