The Vines Golf & Country Club is the golf operation at The Vines Resort in Western Australia's Swan Valley. It opened in 1989 after Japanese developer Sanwa Vines Pty Ltd commissioned Australian architects Graham Marsh and Ross Watson to design the golf courses. The first stage contained 27 holes; an additional nine followed during the 1990s, creating two 18-hole combinations historically known as the Ellenbrook and Lakes courses.
The resort's current golf offering is marketed as an 18-hole Championship course plus a separate Lakes nine-hole course, so this club-level record should not merge the scorecards of those distinct layouts. The current Championship 18 is listed by the resort as par 72, 5,783 metres from the White tees and slope 128. The Vines has hosted major professional events including the Vines/Heineken Classic, Johnnie Walker Classic in 2006 and 2009, and the 2007 Lexus Cup.
The course is a resort golf course. Designed by Ross Watson and Graham Marsh, the course originally opened in 1989. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, Bar, Accommodation, Full Membership, and 4 more.
The Vines was developed at the end of the 1980s by Sanwa Vines Pty Ltd as a combined golf, resort and residential project in the Swan Valley. Graham Marsh and Ross Watson were commissioned to create the golf layouts. The first 27 holes were completed for the resort's 1989 opening.
The official resort description credits Marsh and Watson with using the Swan Valley landscape to shape a course characterised by extensive bunkering, grassy hollows, native vegetation and large bent-grass greens.
A further nine holes were added during the 1990s, creating 36 holes arranged as the Ellenbrook and Lakes courses. More recently the resort has consolidated its marketed golf offering around a Championship 18 and Lakes nine.
The Vines gained international exposure through the Heineken Classic from 1993 to 2001 and later the Johnnie Walker Classic and Lexus Cup, bringing players including Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Bernhard Langer and Annika Sorenstam to the property.
The golf operation is publicly accessible and forms part of a full resort with accommodation, restaurants, membership, practice facilities and other recreation.
