Verdura East Links is one of the two 18-hole Kyle Phillips courses at Verdura Resort on Sicily's southwest coast. Phillips' own project list records the original East Course as opening in autumn 2009, playing to par 72 and 7,321 yards. The course underwent a major reconstruction after severe flooding in late 2018 damaged fourteen coastal holes across Verdura's East and West layouts.
Phillips returned to redesign the affected golf, with reconstructed holes, new playing surfaces, refreshed bunkering, new turf and changes to the routing. Rocco Forte now commonly distinguishes the two principal layouts as Verdura Links/East Links and Verdura Shore/West Shore. The Links routing is therefore not simply the untouched 2009 East Course; it reflects the substantial post-flood redesign.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,321 yards. Designed by Kyle Phillips, the course originally opened in 2009. It is open to resort guests. On-site facilities include Driving range, Golf academy, Performance centre, Putting facilities, Club rental, Golf carts, Clubhouse.
Verdura's golf project was conceived as a central element of Sir Rocco Forte's large coastal resort in southwest Sicily. Kyle Phillips designed the original East and West courses, both opening in autumn 2009. His East Course was a par-72 championship layout measuring 7,321 yards, with the two courses originally intertwined across the coastal property.
Phillips used the exposed Mediterranean setting and broad ground contours to create the original courses. Their intertwined nature meant the two layouts shared the landscape rather than occupying completely isolated parcels. In the later redesign he retained much of the broad routing framework while changing individual holes, coastal features, bunkering and playing surfaces.
A freak flood in late 2018 severely damaged fourteen coastline holes spread across the East and West courses. Phillips returned to Verdura and spent several years rebuilding and reorganising the golf. The work included new greens and other playing surfaces, refreshed bunkers, new fairway and rough turf and routing adjustments.
This reconstruction also helped establish clearer modern identities for the Links and Shore courses. Contemporary sources describe staged reopening during 2021, while Phillips' own portfolio records the East Course as reopened following the remodel in 2022.
After the reconstruction, Rocco Forte reported that Verdura Links took first place in Golf World's inaugural Top 100 Courses in Italy ranking. The resort has also received repeated golf-resort recognition, while Phillips' portfolio lists the East Course among his notable European resort designs.
Verdura Resort currently operates two Kyle Phillips-designed 18-hole championship courses plus a separate nine-hole par-three course. The modern East Links/Links is the substantially reconstructed descendant of the original 2009 East Course, supported by a golf academy, driving range and performance facilities.
