Origins

The original Waikoloa Beach Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in July 1981. It played to par 70 and 6,566 yards from the championship tees, with the routing built through lava terrain near Anaeho'omalu Bay.

Did You Know?
The former 18-hole Beach Course has been broken into the resort's present nine-hole-loop system rather than continuing as the same standalone course.

Design Philosophy

Jones used the Big Island's lava landscape and coastal setting as major design features. The historical course included five holes where water came into play and an oceanfront par-5 seventh.

Development

Waikoloa Beach Resort subsequently undertook a rerouting and rebranding of its golf operation into a 27-hole facility. The current loops are Beach Nine, Lakes Nine and Kings' Nine, and golfers combine two loops for an 18-hole round.

Today

The Beach Nine currently plays to par 35 and 3,281 yards. It operates as one component of Waikoloa Beach Resort's 27-hole system rather than as the historical standalone 18-hole Beach Course.
