Willingdon Golf Club is an 18-hole members' course at Eastbourne in East Sussex. Golf began on the site in 1898 with a simple nine-hole layout. H.
Taylor redesigned it as an 18-hole course in 1905, and in 1925 Alister MacKenzie carried out the extensive remodelling that largely defines the course today. The club specifically identifies two-tier greens at the 8th, 9th, 12th and 18th as surviving MacKenzie features. Only three holes escaped the 1925 remodelling.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. Designed by J. H. Taylor, the course originally opened in 1898. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Bar.
Willingdon began in 1898 when local golfers, including the Marquess of Willingdon, created a simple nine-hole course and used a corrugated-iron hut as the clubhouse.
H. Taylor created an 18-hole course in 1905. Alister MacKenzie returned to the site in 1925 and remodelled almost the entire layout, bringing the natural contours more strongly into play.
Two-tier greens at holes 8, 9, 12 and 18 remain particularly identifiable MacKenzie features.
The 1925 work established the basic course played today, with the club describing the MacKenzie layout as largely unchanged.
Willingdon remains an 18-hole members' club with visitor play on the edge of Eastbourne.
