Woodlands Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 Melbourne Sandbelt course in Mordialloc. The club was formally established as Mordialloc Golf Club on 17 July 1913, with Richard Banks laying out the original nine for an opening day on 6 September. A.
Scott, Mick Morcom and Alec Russell subsequently made important architectural and conditioning contributions. Russell redesigned key sections in 1934-36, including the 11th, 16th and 17th holes. Tom Doak designed a separate Centenary 19th hole in 2013.
The course is an 18-hole sandbelt golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,111m. Designed by Richard Banks and Sam Bennetts, the course originally opened in 1913. It is open to members and their guests. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Clubhouse, Bar, Golf Carts.
Permission to play over the Mayfield Estate led to the formal creation of Mordialloc Golf Club on 17 July 1913. Richard Banks laid out nine holes for opening day on 6 September 1913.
Woodlands evolved through several architectural hands. Its modern identity centres on small, firm greens, tightly cut surrounds and strategic Sandbelt bunkering rather than excessive length. Alec Russell's 1930s alterations strengthened the strategic character of several important holes.
Sam Bennetts expanded the club to 18 holes in 1919. A. Scott advised on bunkering and later changes, Mick Morcom influenced turf and green preparation, and Alec Russell redesigned key areas in 1934-36.
The club became Woodlands in 1925. Tom Doak added a commemorative 19th hole in 2013.
Woodlands hosted the 1934 Victorian Amateur and later the Victorian Open, including Robert Allenby's course-record 66 in his 1991 victory.
The club remains a private Sandbelt institution with controlled visitor access and continues to play on the same Mordialloc property used since 1913.
