Ben Daniel Crenshaw (born January 11, 1952) is an American Hall of Fame professional golfer famed for his deft putting and thoughtful play. In 1986, while still active on the PGA Tour, he partnered with Bill Coore to establish the course‑design firm Coore & Crenshaw, blending a historian’s reverence for classic layouts with a minimalist design ethos.
Their breakthrough project, Sand Hills Golf Club near Mullen, Nebraska—where they moved remarkably little earth and let the natural dunes guide the design—marked a turning point in modern golf architecture, emphasizing naturalism over artifice. Crenshaw’s architectural style celebrates strategic, terrain‑honoring courses that evoke the spirit of golf’s golden age while offering contemporary playability.
