Golf Course Architect
David McLay Kidd, born in 1967 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland, is a pioneering golf course architect known for bringing a traditional, Scottish-style links approach to America. Educated in horticulture and landscape design at Writtle College, he began his career interning with Southern Golf Construction before working with Swan Golf Designs and Gleneagles Golf Developments.
His breakthrough came with the design of Bandon Dunes in Oregon, which opened in 1999 and launched a wave of destination-linked golf development. Over time, Kidd evolved his philosophy to favor playability and fun, leading to acclaimed designs such as Gamble Sands, Mammoth Dunes, and GrayBull Club in Nebraska, reflecting his ability to craft bold yet accessible courses that harmonize with the natural landscape.
He leads his own firm, DMK Golf Design, and resides in Bend, Oregon.
