Origins

Riverside began as a nine-hole course in 1964. Gary and Bob Roush purchased the property in 1974, beginning the period that shaped the modern club.

An eight-year-old Mitchell Roush hit the ceremonial first shot from the new 10th tee when the 18-hole expansion was celebrated on May 6, 1976.

Design Philosophy

The official club description credits Michael Hurdzan and Jack Kidwell and identifies tree-lined fairways, small putting surfaces and difficult par 5s as defining characteristics.

Development

The Roush family began expanding Riverside to 18 holes in 1975. The expansion was completed by 1976. A new clubhouse opened in April 2001 with a pro shop, restaurant, porch and banquet facilities.

In 2008, the present fourth and fifth holes were developed and a driving range was added.

Recognition

Riverside has had a substantial role in West Virginia competitive golf through repeated USGA Public Links and WVGA qualifying events.

Today

The club remains family operated and public, serving golfers from both West Virginia and neighbouring Ohio.
