Bally's Golf Links at Ferry Point is an 18-hole, par-71 public course in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, on 222 acres of New York City parkland beside the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. The Jack Nicklaus Signature design was created in consultation with Sanford Golf Design and opened on April 1, 2015. From the Black tees it measures 7,407 yards, with a published course rating of 76.3 and slope of 146.
The course was built over regraded land that had previously included a municipal landfill, using extensive earthmoving to create dunes, rolling fairways and elevated teeing grounds rising as much as 55 feet above grade. It is largely treeless, with fescue, deep bunkering, exposed wind and views toward Manhattan, the East River and surrounding bridges. The facility includes a practice range, putting and short-game areas, golf academy, golf shop, caddie service and a waterfront clubhouse with restaurant and event facilities.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 71, 7,407 yards, course rating 76.3 and slope rating 146. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and Sanford Golf Design, the course originally opened in 2015. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Grass Driving Range, Putting Green, Practice Bunker, Golf Academy, Golf Lessons, Golf Shop, Golf Club Hire, and 9 more.
The golf course emerged from a much longer effort to reclaim part of Ferry Point Park. The land east of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge had been used by New York City's Department of Sanitation as a municipal solid-waste landfill from 1952 until 1970. Plans for golf on the property were discussed for years before New York City committed to a large public redevelopment.
Nicklaus Design describes Ferry Point as part of a city-funded project intended to add a championship-level public course to a municipal system whose existing courses routinely operated with heavy demand. Jack Nicklaus was commissioned for the Signature design, working in consultation with Sanford Golf Design. Construction reshaped the former landfill into an artificial links landscape, and the course opened to the public on April 1, 2015.
Nicklaus approached the otherwise manufactured site as an opportunity to create an Irish- and Scottish-influenced links-style course rather than imitate conventional tree-lined metropolitan golf. The design is nearly treeless, with tall native grasses, broad fescue-lined corridors, large dune formations and extensive exposed bunkering. Some teeing grounds were raised as much as 55 feet above the original grade.
Strategy is based heavily on angles and risk-reward decisions: the short par-4 7th can be attacked from the tee but brings a pond into play, while several longer holes use centerline or diagonal bunkers to force a choice of route. Nicklaus also intended the back tees to provide enough difficulty for significant tournaments while allowing multiple forward teeing options for ordinary public play.
The course opened under the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point name in 2015 after Trump Ferry Point LLC received the operating concession from New York City. A permanent waterfront clubhouse followed in 2016. New York City's attempts to terminate its relationship with the Trump Organization after January 2021 resulted in litigation, and the operation eventually changed hands through a commercial transaction.
The city's environmental-review documents confirm that the concession license was formally assigned to Bally's on September 12, 2023, after which the facility became Bally's Golf Links at Ferry Point. Bally's later advanced plans for a casino, hotel and entertainment complex on adjoining portions of the property. As of August 2026, construction associated with that project has temporarily closed the 9th hole and the chipping area, while the majority of the original golf routing remains in operation.
Ferry Point received national attention almost immediately after opening. Golf Digest ranked it second among its Best New Courses in 2015 and later included it in America's 100 Greatest Public Courses in 2017. Golfweek ranked it No.
2 among New York courses open to public play from 2015 through 2020 and included it in its national Top 100 Courses You Can Play in 2019 and 2020; in 2024 it was again listed among the top three public-access courses in New York. GOLF Magazine selected the 16th for its 2016 Dream 18 of public golf holes, while the Metropolitan Golf Association later included the 18th in its Modern Dream 18.
Bally's operates the course under license from the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, while the golf property remains public parkland owned by the city. The course is open seven days a week and offers separate pricing for New York City residents and non-residents, along with weekday senior, junior and military rates. Tee times can be booked up to 14 days in advance.
The golf operation includes a practice range, academy, caddies, golf shop and waterfront food-and-beverage facilities. Current construction for the proposed Bally's entertainment development is affecting part of the golf property, but city planning documents state that the majority of the 18-hole course will remain configured as golf.
