Mona Vale Golf Club is an 18-hole public-access course at 3 Golf Avenue on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Heritage research records the modern course at 6,068 metres and par 72 and credits Frank O'Brien and Al Howard with its design history. Golf on the site predates the present club: an early resort development included golf around the beginning of the twentieth century, and local players later established a rough three-hole layout before volunteer labour produced a nine-hole course.
Mona Vale Golf Club formally organised in 1927. The property was gradually expanded and improved from swamp and dune terrain, with drainage works playing an important role in creating the present golf landscape. The club now combines the 18-hole course with a clubhouse overlooking the course and nearby coast, dining facilities and a range of membership categories.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,068m (6,636 yards). Designed by Frank O'Brien and Al Howard, the course originally opened in 1927. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Restaurant, Bistro, Bar, Café.
Golf on the Mona Vale site predates the present club. George Brock's ambitious resort development around 1900 included a golf course, while heritage research records Frank O'Brien designing a nine-hole course in 1910. Around 1920 a local golfer named McFarlane created a rough three-hole layout.
Local participation grew, and volunteer labour subsequently developed nine holes on Kitchener Park.
Mona Vale Golf Club formally organised in 1927. With no permanent clubhouse, members initially used a tent before acquiring and relocating an old ambulance station. During the early 1930s, drainage of the swamp at the centre of the present property helped make expansion possible.
The course and clubhouse continued to evolve over subsequent decades.
Mona Vale now operates an 18-hole, par-72 course on Sydney's Northern Beaches with clubhouse dining, membership and visitor social golf.
