About Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club

Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club is the former name of the 18-hole course now operating as LA VIE Club in Muscat. The original course was designed by Paul Thomas of David Thomas Associates and the full 18 holes opened in October 2009. It was Oman's first fully grassed 18-hole PGA-certified course.

The former club's published course guide lists a par of 72, a championship length of 6,383 metres and a 7,014-yard total, with a course rating of 71.7 and slope of 123. The routing occupies natural wadi terrain near Muscat International Airport and was designed around the site's existing contours rather than eliminating them. Muscat Hills later ceased operation in 2020.

The course is an 18-hole desert golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,383m (7,014 yards), course rating 71.7 and slope rating 123. Designed by Paul Thomas, the course originally opened in 2009. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Greens, Chipping Green, Golf Academy, Golf Shop, Restaurant, Terrace.

Origins

The course was developed as the sporting centerpiece of the Muscat Hills residential project. H. Kais bin Tarik Al Said, and Paul Thomas of David Thomas Associates was appointed to design the course.

The complete 18-hole layout opened for play in October 2009.

Design Philosophy

Thomas used the natural Muscat Hills terrain and its canyon-like wadis as part of the routing. The original club described the design as intended to complement the site's existing natural features, with the holes moving through rocky desert ground rather than across a uniformly reshaped site.

Development

Muscat Hills operated through the 2010s before closing in 2020. The golf property subsequently became part of the LA VIE redevelopment. The new project was formally unveiled in 2023 and the course returned to operation under the LA VIE Club identity and new ownership, with Troon associated with management.

Today

The golf course survives as LA VIE Club rather than under the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club operating name. Current project material describes it as an 18-hole championship course within the wider LA VIE development.
