Origins

Olympia Fields was founded in 1915 during the height of America's Golden Age of golf-course development. Tom Bendelow designed the club's first three courses, while Willie Park Jr. later produced the fourth, now known as the North Course.

Did You Know?
By 1925 Olympia Fields had four complete 18-hole courses and a clubhouse with an 80-foot clock tower visible from all four first tees.

Development

The club reached 72 holes by 1925. Economic pressures during the Depression and World War II eventually forced the sale of two courses in 1945. The surviving North and South courses have subsequently undergone major championship-driven renovation work.

Recognition

Few American private clubs have hosted as broad a championship résumé. The North Course in particular has staged men's and women's professional majors, national amateur championships and FedExCup playoff events.

Today

Olympia Fields remains a private 36-hole club. The South retains Tom Bendelow's routing as renovated by Steve Smyers, while the North remains the principal championship venue and is entering another restoration phase.
