Origins

Punta Espada was conceived as the first of the Jack Nicklaus Signature courses planned for the Cap Cana development and opened in November 2006.

Did You Know?
Eight holes play along or over the Caribbean Sea.

Design Philosophy

Nicklaus used the Caribbean shoreline, coastal inlets and existing land contours as central routing elements. Sea carries and holes directly beside the coast form a significant part of the course rather than being isolated features.

Development

Within two years of opening, Punta Espada had become a professional tournament venue, staging the inaugural Cap Cana Championship in 2008 and retaining the event through 2010.

Recognition

Golfweek repeatedly ranked Punta Espada at the top of its Caribbean and Mexico lists, while Golf Digest has included it in international rankings.

Today

Punta Espada remains an operating resort course at Cap Cana with public visitor tee times and a mandatory caddie component included in its published rate structure.
